Animazione - 9.5

Osservate ammutoliti mentre questo anime distrugge completamente qualunque altro uscito nello stesso periodo!

L'animazione èestremamente fluida e stupisce per un livello di dettaglio raramente visto finora. I movimenti dei personaggi risultano estremamente più realistici del solito grazie a questa fluidità - sembrano molto più vivi. Tutto, ma proprio tutto è animato. Non c'è una sola scena nella quale si notano gruppi di persone immobili come manichini ed ogni signolo dettaglio è estremamente curato.

Il disegno dei personaggi è forse la parte migliore dell'anime: le espressioni facciali sono incredibilmente efficaci e colpiscono moltissimo, gli abbigliamenti e i tagli di capelli non sono troppo assurdi ma riescono ad essere comunque originali. Le ragazze sono estremamente kawaii :) La differenza enorme fra i caratteri dei vari personaggi viene trasmessa in grandissima parte anche dal loro aspetto e in quel senso il lavoro dello studio è stato eccellente.

Durante l'anime si notano molte scene che devono essere costate un sacco di soldi. Passerà alla storia (spero) l'animazione di un gruppo musicale che suona due canzoni. L'accuratezza dei movimenti dei musicisti è incredibile, nel senso che una musicista vero muoverebbe le dita e le braccia proprio in quel modo, la scincronia con la musica è assolutamente perfetta. Notevole il lavoro fatto sulla cantante che all'inizio appare piuttosto preoccupata e durante la performance ce la mette tutta. Ogni minuscolo dettaglio, dal sudore alle contrazioni dei muscoli della faccia, è curatissimo ed assolutamente realistico. Beck, che mostra quel tipo di scene dall'inizio alla fine, non arriva nemmeno lontanamente a quei livelli. Da non perdere!


Audio - 8

La colonna sonora è molto ben fatta, piena di motivetti orecchiabili e caratterizzata da una certa varietà. Durante l'anime si sentono un paio di canzoni e devo dire che pur essendo in stile j-pop mascherato da rock perfino quelle non sono suonate poi male. In generale, una collezione piuttosto solida che sostiene molto efficacemente le molte e diverse atmosfere create durante spettacolo.


Storia - 9

Haruhi sembra solo un po' eccentrica; non è così strana da poter essere considerata una studentessa fuori del normale. E' una persona estremamente energica e si lancia con entusiasmo eccessivo verso le cose più strane, come alieni, viaggiatori del tempo o esper.

Il tutto per evitare di annoiarsi.

Perche' la noia di Haruhi Suzumiya...

...e' un GRANDE problema.

La prima cosa da notare riguardo a questo anime è che la storia non viene presentata come in tutti gli altri anime, infatti gli episodi sono volutamente trasmessi in ordine sparso (l'ordine effettivo degli episodi è 2,3, 5, 10, 13, 14, 4, 7, 6, 8, 1, 12, 11, 9 - NON guardateli in quest'ordine la prima volta). Questo non vuol dire che si debba per forza fare una gran fatica per capire cosa succede; l'ordine è solo apparentemente casuale, in realtà i creatori dell'anime hanno pensato bene di rendere le cose solo un po' più confuse senza arrivare all'incomprensibilità. Alla fine della prima visione lo spettatore ha comunque capito tutto quello che c'è da capire. Riguardo a che cosa abbiano ottenuto con questa trovata, non ne ho la più pallida idea ma ho la netta impressione che se gli episodi fossero stati trasmessi nell'ordine giusto il tutto sarebbe stato un po' meno interessante, senza contare il fatto che tutto in quest'anime è una continua ricerca dell'originalità. Inoltre credo che dopotutto l'ordine degli episodi non sia del tutto casuale, ne parlerò più avanti.

L'ambientazione è la tipica scuola superiore giapponese che abbiamo già visto fino alla nausea. Questa volta per fortuna i personaggi estremamente originali e l'assurdità di tutto quello che accade sono più che sufficienti a far dimenticare del tutto allo spettatore la banalità dell'ambientazione. A dire il vero, ho il sospetto che sia stata scelta un'ambientazione banale proprio per contrastare il più possibile con tutto il resto.

L'intreccio è notevole, veramente originale ed interessante. Questo è uno di quegli anime dove invariabilmente lo spettatore si chiede: ma come gli è venuta in mente una cosa del genere?? Anche i contenuti sono piuttosto fuori dal normale - mai e poi mai avrei pensato di trovare la spiegazione del principio antropico in un anime :D


Personaggi - 8

Questo anime ha forse la raccolta di personaggi più assurda che si possa immaginare. Purtroppo non posso dire quasi nulla, parlare dei personaggi evitando spoiler è impossibile. Basti sapere che non ce ne sono due simili e che la protagonista, Haruhi, è uno dei personaggi più interessanti che mi sia capitato di vedere finora. Ha una personalità apparentemente incomprensibile, ma col passare del tempo diventa sempre più familiare; è uno di quei personaggi che si impara ad amare un episodio per volta, finchè non arriva la fine dell'anime e si rimane a guardare i titoli di coda, scontenti perchè lo spettacolo è finito e non rivedremo i personaggi in nessun altro anime.

Sono quasi sicuro che l'ordine degli episodi sia stato scelto in base a quanto ciascun episodio ci rivela riguardo alla personalità di Haruhi: i primi la presentano come una svitata, gli ultimi sono quelli che mostrano più di tutti quello che porta dentro di sé e quelli nel mezzo collegano i due estremi con una gradazione più o meno regolare. Se gli episodi fossero stati nel loro ordine naturale questa progressione graduale non ci sarebbe stata. Un po' strampalata come teoria, ma l'anime stesso è abbastanza fuori dal normale.

I personaggi che orbitano attorno a Haruhi sono forse meno interessanti ma restano molto, molto divertenti ed estremamente memorabili; tutto l'anime è un'ottima commedia e i personaggi ne sono il cuore pulsante.


Apprezzamento personale - 9.5

Haruhi e' diventata in 3-4 episodi uno dei miei personaggi preferiti e prima della fine è entrata nel pantheon dei personaggi che adoro. Quello che mi è rimasto più impresso di lei è l'espressione estremamente maliziosa. Non ricordo di aver mai visto niente del genere prima.
Haruhi è il pilastro sul quale poggia questo anime. Se piace Haruhi, piace l'anime - ed io Haruhi la adoro, quindi è un 9.5 meritatissimo.

Originalissimo, ben realizzato, ottimo livello tecnico, ottima storia, personaggi memorabili. Bravissimi i creatori di questo anime, che si prende un meritatissimo 9. So che non ho detto molto riguardo a questo gioiello ma davvero non posso rischiare spoiler: si tratta solo di 14 episodi e sono pieni zeppi. Guardatelo e capirete!

Overview

The world is in danger! Quickly, someone, anyone, please amuse Haruhi before it's too late!

The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is one of the most original things I've seen so far and deserves being watched just for that. However it's also an amusing comedy, a parody of many other anime and has some of the most amusing and likable characters ever.


Animation - 9.5

Behold in astonishment as this anime totally destroys any other anime of the same period!

The animation is extremely fluid and surprises for a level of detail rarely seen so far. The movements of the characters appear much more natural and realistic thanks to that fluidity, while the amount of detail and the fact that everything — and I mean everything — is animated, foreground and background, adds to the vividness and overall beauty of every scene.

The character design is maybe the best part of this anime. The facial expressions of the characters are incredibly effective and striking, I'll never forget the malice Haruhi expresses when she teases Mikuru or does some other mischief. In this anime the characters vary a lot and the enormous differences between them are expressed by their animation as effectively as by their dubbers' voices and the lines they speak. In this regard, the studio's work has been absolutely excellent.

During the anime there are many hugely expensive scenes. I hope animation history will be marked by the animated performance of a band playing two songs we get to see during the show. The accuracy of the movements of musicians is incredible, real ones would move exactly that way, and the synchrony with the music is perfectly accurate as well.


Sound - 8

The soundtrack is outstanding, full of likable tracks and as varied as the anime itself. It's used so effectively, it actually seems better then it actually is.


Story - 9

Most people would think Haruhi Suzumiya certainly seems eccentric but not strange enough to be considered dangerous; only a few people know that the very fabric of reality can be torn apart...

...if Haruhi becomes bored. Yes, Haruhi's melancholy is a huge problem.

The most obvious thing is that the story isn't presented normally, indeed the episodes have been aired in the wrong order (on purpose). The actual order is 2, 3, 5, 10, 13, 14, 4, 7, 6, 8, 1, 12, 11, 9, don't watch them in this order the first time through. Yes, the first episode actually comes very late.

This doesn't mean one has to put a huge effort into understanding what the hell is happening, the order is only apparently random; first of all, by the end of the first watch the viewer has understood everything with almost no effort at all, so don't worry. Second, the order is such that Haruhi's complex character is revealed gradually, while the chronological order would scatter her development all over the place.

The setting is the typical Japanese high school we've already seen thousands of times. Thankfully, the characters are so amusing and things so absurd happen that the setting becomes simply irrelevant. Or, maybe, the boring setting was chosen to make the originality of everything else stand out more. Who knows?

The plot is outstanding. It's one of those shows that make you go: "how they hell did they think about that??" Even the contents are very uncommon, I can understand focusing on a niche like Hikaru no Go does, but in Haruhi there's even an explanation of the anthropic principle!


Characters - 8

Well, here's the most absurd collection of characters you can imagine. There aren't two alike and the protagonist, Haruhi, is one of the most interesting characters I've ever had the pleasure of seeing so far. In the beginning she's almost impossible to connect with, but as the show progresses it becomes easier and easier to understand her. It's probably partly thanks to this effort the viewer has to make that in the end she becomes so likable and it's a fact that now she has many "followers" among the anime-watching crowd. A lot of people now love her and I must confess that I'm one of them, so this review may not be that objective (what can I say, I'm only human). It is an objective truth, however, that she and the other characters are very well constructed and evolve interestingly, although maybe not in an unforseeable way. This anime is a great comedy and the characters are its beating heart.


Personal appreciation - 9.5

In 3-4 episodes Haruhi became one of my favorite characters and by the end she was already one of those I love. I liked this anime for a lot of reasons, but Haruhi's character is what made me love it.


Overall - 9

Very original, very well made, high technical level, great story, memorable characters. This anime has it all.
